A typical Bangladeshi 8th grader who hears of something called 3D Printer would never imagine of seeing this aladin’s lamp like stuff that can print anything he wishes for . I was that kid who have always wanted to work on this cool gadget but told myself that it would reach this country when I will be in my thirties! But…but one day from a random facebook post , I heard of something named FAB LAB (FABrication LABoratory) which can be found in 8 to 9 universities in Bangladesh . Fortunately CUET managed to be a part of that tally.
Well , “ A Workshop on Digital Fabrication” held on 13th September , 2019 , I saw ( & worked on) gadgets that I could use only in my dreams when I was in class 8 , thanks to IEEE CUET RAS .
On that early Friday morning, the workshop was conducted by S.M. Anamul Arefin , the only Fab Guru in Bangladesh . After a brief introduction to Fab Lab , he took us straight to the “LASER CUTTER” where all of us worked and made souvenirs for ourselves. Preparing a design on Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape or Corel Draw can be fed into a laser cutter which can etch or engrave that design as raster and can make fine thin-edge cutting for a vector input .
Then It was the time for 3d Printer to be unleashed . A design work prepared on AutoCad or SolidWorks can be fed into the 3d Printer that makes your sketch into reality . A miniature chair was printed along with some other designs including round shaped skull , vehicles etc.
Then we worked on CNC Milling Machine which is a subtractive tool for making a particular sort of design. Due to the time constraints we just had a brief session on PCB Milling and Vinyl Cutter .
On the way to a new era , CUET has advanced and will be reaching the pinnacles quite soon. On the journey to Industry 4.0 , such highly sophisticated & advanced labs can increase the expertise of the students and help them chasing their dream.
